How to be a successful software architect?

I personally think that being an architect comes with experience. You can’t just skip right to this stage of development.

Architecting requires certain knowledge that allows you to think ‘generically’ but also you must get past just being a programmer to being able to program the ‘right way’ using the best pattern or practice.
